P80 Plasma Cutting Nozzle Overview

INWELT supplies P80 plasma cutting nozzles for air-cooled P80 plasma cutting torch configurations. The nozzle is a replaceable front-end consumable that constricts and directs the plasma arc through a defined orifice.

The current INWELT P80 nozzle range includes 1.0 mm, 1.3 mm and 1.5 mm orifice options for 40A, 60A and 80A applications respectively.

The correct nozzle should be selected according to the P80 torch configuration, operating current, nozzle orifice, electrode condition and plasma cutting parameters.

For distributors, plasma cutter manufacturers and industrial users, INWELT supports bulk supply, OEM/ODM projects and customized packaging.

P80 Plasma Cutter Accessories

P80 Nozzle Orifice and Current Selection

The nozzle orifice controls the opening through which the plasma jet exits the torch. Different orifice sizes are used for different current ranges and cutting conditions.

For the current INWELT product configuration:

P80 Nozzle Orifice Listed Current Typical Selection
1.0 mm 40A Lower-current P80 cutting
1.3 mm 60A Medium-current P80 cutting
1.5 mm 80A Higher-current P80 cutting

Always confirm the nozzle specification against the plasma cutter manufacturer's recommended operating parameters.

A larger orifice should not automatically be selected simply because it is available. The nozzle must match the operating current, electrode, torch configuration and plasma system.

P80 1.0 mm Plasma Nozzle – 40A

The 1.0 mm P80 plasma nozzle is listed by INWELT for 40A applications.

It can be selected when the plasma cutting system is operated in the corresponding lower-current range.

Before installation, confirm:

  • P80 torch configuration

  • 40A operating current

  • Correct electrode

  • Correct nozzle geometry

  • Clean compressed-air supply

  • Proper torch height and cutting parameters

If the nozzle orifice becomes enlarged or distorted during operation, replace the nozzle rather than continuing to use a damaged consumable.

P80 1.3 mm Plasma Nozzle – 60A

The 1.3 mm P80 plasma nozzle is listed by INWELT for 60A applications.

This configuration is suitable for P80 systems operated within the corresponding current range when matched with the correct electrode and torch setup.

The nozzle should be installed concentrically with the electrode and other front-end components.

Inspect the nozzle regularly for:

  • Enlarged orifice

  • Asymmetric wear

  • Surface damage

  • Excessive spatter

  • Discoloration caused by abnormal heat

  • Deformation around the nozzle opening

P80 1.5 mm Plasma Nozzle – 80A

The 1.5 mm P80 plasma nozzle is listed by INWELT for 80A applications.

The INWELT P80 plasma torch is rated at 80A with a 60% duty cycle and uses compressed air with HF ignition. Its listed operating air pressure is approximately 4.5–5.0 bar with a gas flow of 220 L/min.

For an 80A P80 system, the 1.5 mm nozzle should be matched with the appropriate P80 electrode and operating parameters.

How Does a P80 Plasma Cutting Nozzle Work?

The plasma nozzle is positioned at the front of the torch and provides the orifice through which the plasma jet exits.

During plasma cutting:

  1. The plasma power source supplies electrical energy to the torch.

  2. The electrode initiates and sustains the plasma arc.

  3. Plasma gas flows through the torch.

  4. The nozzle constricts and directs the plasma jet.

  5. The concentrated plasma jet transfers heat to the electrically conductive workpiece.

  6. Molten material is expelled from the cut.

The nozzle therefore works together with the electrode, plasma gas, torch head and power source. A nozzle should not be selected independently of the complete consumable system.

How to Choose the Correct P80 Plasma Nozzle

Use the following selection process before ordering a replacement nozzle.

1. Confirm the P80 Torch

Make sure the torch uses the P80 consumable family.

INWELT's P80 torch is an air-cooled plasma cutting torch available in manual and straight machine-torch configurations. Both use the P80 consumable family, but the complete torch configuration should still be confirmed before ordering.

2. Confirm the Operating Current

Identify the normal cutting current used by the plasma power source.

For the current INWELT configuration:

  • 40A → 1.0 mm

  • 60A → 1.3 mm

  • 80A → 1.5 mm

3. Confirm the Electrode

The nozzle and electrode work as a consumable pair.

A worn electrode can affect arc stability and accelerate nozzle wear. Inspect both components when replacing the nozzle.

4. Check the Nozzle Orifice

The orifice must be clean, round and free from visible deformation.

Do not use a nozzle with an enlarged or damaged opening.

5. Check the Cutting Parameters

Nozzle selection should also be considered together with:

  • Plasma current

  • Cutting speed

  • Torch height

  • Air pressure

  • Air quality

  • Material

  • Material thickness

  • Arc-starting method

P80 Plasma Nozzle Compatibility

The term "P80" is widely used for a plasma torch platform, but P80 does not by itself guarantee compatibility with every plasma cutting machine.

Before ordering replacement nozzles, confirm:

  • Torch model

  • Consumable family

  • Nozzle geometry

  • Orifice diameter

  • Operating current

  • Electrode configuration

  • Shield or retaining component

  • Plasma gas

  • Power-source requirements

The INWELT P80 torch uses compressed air, HF ignition and an 80A / 60% duty-cycle configuration.

For replacement projects involving another manufacturer's P80 torch, provide the existing nozzle, torch model or consumable dimensions when possible.

P80 Plasma Nozzle and Electrode Matching

A P80 plasma cutting system normally uses a consumable set that includes the electrode, cutting nozzle and ceramic shield or retaining component.

The INWELT P80 torch documentation identifies these as the primary replaceable consumables.

The nozzle and electrode should be inspected together because:

  • Electrode wear can affect arc stability.

  • A damaged electrode can contribute to abnormal nozzle wear.

  • An enlarged nozzle orifice can affect plasma-jet concentration.

  • Damaged front-end components can affect cutting quality.

For maintenance, replace the affected consumable rather than automatically replacing the complete torch.

When Should a P80 Plasma Nozzle Be Replaced?

There is no single replacement interval that applies to every P80 plasma cutting application.

Nozzle life depends on:

  • Operating current

  • Number of arc starts

  • Cutting parameters

  • Torch height

  • Compressed-air quality

  • Electrode condition

  • Material being cut

  • Cutting technique

  • Contact with the workpiece

  • Spatter accumulation

Inspect the nozzle when you notice:

  • Enlarged or distorted orifice

  • Poor cut quality

  • Increased dross

  • Beveled or inconsistent cut edges

  • Unstable arc

  • Difficulty maintaining the arc

  • Excessive nozzle heating

  • Visible nozzle damage

INWELT's P80 torch maintenance guidance similarly recommends inspecting the electrode and nozzle when arc stability or cut quality deteriorates.

Common P80 Nozzle Problems and Solutions

P80 Nozzle Orifice Becomes Enlarged

An enlarged orifice can change the plasma jet and affect cutting quality.

Check:

  • Operating current

  • Torch height

  • Electrode condition

  • Air pressure

  • Number of arc starts

Replace the nozzle when the orifice is visibly enlarged or distorted.

Nozzle Burns or Deforms Quickly

Possible causes include:

  • Incorrect nozzle size

  • Excessive current

  • Poor torch height

  • Damaged electrode

  • Poor compressed-air quality

  • Incorrect consumable assembly

  • Abnormal arc starting

Check the complete consumable system before installing another nozzle.

Excessive Dross After Replacing the Nozzle

Dross is not necessarily caused by the nozzle alone.

Also check:

  • Cutting speed

  • Cutting current

  • Torch height

  • Air pressure

  • Material

  • Material thickness

  • Electrode condition

  • Nozzle condition

The INWELT P80 torch guidance identifies current, travel speed, air pressure and consumable condition as factors affecting dross.

Arc Becomes Unstable

Inspect the electrode and nozzle first.

Then verify:

  • Compressed-air quality

  • Air pressure

  • Ground connection

  • Plasma cutter output

  • Torch connection

  • Consumable assembly
